Telstra Corporation Limited is Australia’s largest telecommunications and media company. It originated along with Australia Post as a government department: the Postmaster General’s Department (PMG), founded in 1901 as a result of the Australian Federation. On July 1975, the PMG was split up according to functions, creating the Australia Postal Commission (Australia Post) and the Australian Telecommunications Commission (ATC) trading as Telecom Australia. Uniform rebranding of the company as “Telstra” commenced in 1995.

Telstra owns and operates a series of retail stores, some of which are owned directly and some of which are operated by licensees. It has at least 360 stores Australia-wide.
